Registration Costs and Fundraising

When registration resumes, the cost will be $150.00 plus a uniform deposit of $200.00, which will be return once the full uniform is returned in good condition. The Cadet Corps parades every Friday from 1830 (6:30PM) until 2100 (9:00PM). On some occasions Cadets night will be cancelled due to special events and will be announced well in advance.

The Navy League Cadet Program receives no government funding and NLCC JRK Millen is supported by the non-profit organization, the JRK Millen Branch of the Navy League of Canada. The entire program costs approximately $350 per cadet to run each year. This includes many activities such as Regular Training Nights, Mess Dinners, Marksmanship Days, Band, Coxswains Cup, Camp, and much more.

The approximately $200 difference between the registration fee and the cost to run the program is offset through fundraising completed by parents and cadets during the course of the year. To make our programming possible, all cadets are expected to participate in fundraising activities. Fundraising helps develop responsibility, community spirit, and a strong work ethic, while also helping ensure that every cadet can participate fully in all aspects of the program, regardless of their family’s financial situation.

There are several different fundraising opportunities throughout the year, and each fundraiser has a suggested participation amount to help ensure that each cadet meets their fundraising offset requirement. If a cadet and their family choose not to participate in fundraising, or do not meet the required fundraising amount, they will be responsible for paying the remaining balance before the end of the training year.

Registration Time

NLCC JRK Millen accepts registration at certain times throughout the training year, typically in the beginning of September. To be eligible for membership as a Navy League Cadet, any child that is between 9 and 12, and a Canadian Citizen or landed immigrant, is eligible to participate. The Navy League of Canada is committed to providing a learning and working environment for all persons that is free from harassment. Allowances are made to respect cultural dress, and youth with disabilities are considered on a case by case basis.

Cadet training occurs in a structured environment that promotes the development of self-discipline, respect for others, organization, leadership and teamwork. These skills will help your child become successful in their life endeavours.
